The Chalange
Akshara PU College in Shimoga, Karnataka, was operating with ageing desktop computers across its computer laboratory, administrative offices and finance department. The institution’s outdated analogue CCTV cameras, which had been in service for approximately ten years, were experiencing operational issues. The existing IT infrastructure required a comprehensive upgrade to support modern computing and campus security requirements.
The college also faced challenges with inadequate network infrastructure, a lack of structured cabling and the absence of a dedicated IT room for centralised IT infrastructure management. Connectivity across buildings needed improvement, while the existing setup made network organisation, device identification and ongoing maintenance more challenging.
Unstable internet connectivity further affected operational reliability, with no redundant internet connection to maintain service if the primary ISP failed. Akshara PU College required an integrated IT infrastructure solution combining modern desktop computers, structured campus networking, IP-based CCTV surveillance, reliable internet connectivity and centralised asset management to support its academic and administrative operations.
The Teknikl Solution
Teknikl Systems analysed the institution’s existing infrastructure and implemented a comprehensive IT infrastructure modernisation solution for Akshara PU College. The project included a dedicated 24×7 centralised IT room, more than 10,000 metres of Cat 6 structured cabling with systematic cable numbering, D-Link networking infrastructure, 50+ Dell desktop systems for the computer laboratory and 10+ additional desktop systems for administrative offices and other locations.
To strengthen campus security, Teknikl deployed 150+ Matrix Comsec 5 MP IP surveillance cameras across four buildings, integrating the camera network with the central IT room. The solution enabled centralised CCTV monitoring from the IT room, the Principal’s cabin and the management room, alongside three local camera-viewing arrangements, providing authorised personnel with improved surveillance visibility across the institution’s locations.
To improve network reliability, Teknikl systems configured dual internet service providers with load balancing and automatic failover, enabling traffic distribution across available connections and switching to the remaining ISP if one connection failed. The project also introduced QR-based IT asset identification through Teknikl’s in-house IT asset management system, providing a structured approach to device identification, asset visibility and ongoing infrastructure management.

The technology products that we use to support
Ready to Modernise Your IT Infrastructure?
A complete IT infrastructure solution can include desktop computers, structured cabling, networking equipment, IP surveillance, internet connectivity, server infrastructure and IT asset management. Integrating these systems helps organisations establish a more connected, manageable and reliable technology environment.
Structured cabling provides an organised foundation for connecting computers, network devices, IP cameras and other systems. Proper cable labelling and documentation simplify troubleshooting, maintenance and future infrastructure expansion.
Centralised CCTV monitoring allows authorised personnel to view camera feeds from multiple buildings or locations through designated monitoring points. It improves surveillance visibility and simplifies monitoring compared with managing separate, disconnected systems.
A dual-ISP setup uses two internet service providers with a compatible router or load balancer. Load balancing distributes traffic across available connections, while automatic failover switches connectivity to the remaining provider if one connection fails. Actual continuity depends on the configuration and availability of the backup connection.
The number of cameras depends on the site’s layout, entry and exit points, building coverage, security requirements and desired image detail. A site assessment helps determine camera placement, resolution, storage capacity, network bandwidth and recording requirements.
A centralised IT room provides a dedicated location for core networking equipment and related infrastructure. It supports organised cabling, easier equipment access, centralised management and more efficient maintenance. Appropriate cooling, power backup, physical security and environmental monitoring should also be considered.
QR-based IT asset management enables staff to identify devices by scanning their assigned QR codes and accessing corresponding asset records. Depending on the system’s features, this can simplify inventory checks, device tracking, maintenance records and asset allocation.
